Vintage 2022 Sparkling Rose

WINEMAKER’S NOTES

We have carefully selected a single vineyard parcel of fruit to create this vintage Sparkling Rose. Our Backyard Stories Sparkling Rose has been made in the traditional method to create an elegant sparkling wine.

TASTING NOTES

Colour: Pale salmon pink, with a super fine bead.

Aroma: Attractive lifted fresh perfume from bottle fermented Shiraz; good complexity, with aromas of dried strawberry, guava, and dried herbs. Fine nuance of yeast autolysis.

Palate: Good body, balanced and complex bursting with flavour. Berry fruits with a crisp clean acidity makes for a refreshing aperitif. A fine bead, great balance and fine long persistent flavours make the wine linger and beckons another glass. Perfectly balanced dosage in the drier spectrum.

Food matching: Fine by itself but especially as an aperitif or pair with creamy Albany oysters.

Cellaring: As with all traditionally fermented wines matured on lees in bottle, the wine is ready to consume without further bottle maturation.

Alcohol: 12.0 % Standard drinks: approximately 7.1

TECHNICAL NOTES

Region: Margaret River

Vintage notes: A fast and furious vintage! Excellent quality across all varieties. A cool Spring and a wet October preceded by a dry and warm Summer. An abundance of Marri tree blossom meant low bird pressure and weather conditions were favourable meaning low disease risk. Despite the warmer summer the early harvest of this block has produced an excellent quality sparkling wine.

Composition: 100% 2022 Margaret River Shiraz

Winemaking: Shiraz grapes were select harvested in the cool of the early morning. Grapes were delivered direct to the winery to be lightly pressed allowing some skin contact. A sparkling cycle was used to press the grapes gently. After primary fermentation, the base wine was tiraged with the addition of sugar and yeast and bottle fermented. Following 12 months on lees the bottles were riddled and disgorged to product this pale, lightly spritzed vintage Sparkling.
