WINEMAKER’S NOTES

Our seventh release of a small quantity of Backyard Rose, made from 100% Sangiovese. We think the gentle handing and exclusive use of Sangiovese has honed the style to where we need to be for length of flavour and savoury interest at the heart of the wine.

TASTING NOTES

Colour: Pale salmon pink.

Aroma: A delicate perfumed bouquet, dried strawberries, rhubarb, watermelon and thyme.

Palate: Perfectly balanced savoury wine with some fruit sweetness and a creamy texture. Medium bodied, flinty, with a minerally citrus acidity. Bone dry with a crisp finish.

Food matching: As an aperitif with shortbreads or mandorla dolce or pair with hard cheeses.

Cellaring: Drink in the next twelve months

Alcohol: 13.0% v/v

TECHNICAL NOTES

Region: Margaret River

Vintage notes: A fast and furious vintage! Excellent quality across all varieties. A cool Spring and a wet October preceded by a dry and warm Summer. An abundance of Marri tree blossom meant low bird pressure and weather conditions were favourable meaning low disease risk. Despite the warmer summer the fruit quality across whites and reds is excellent.

Composition: Sangiovese 100%

Winemaking: Sangiovese grapes from a single vineyard located in the North of the Margaret River Region were harvested in the cool of the morning and promptly crushed and pressed. The must was allowed a short skin contact in the press. Free run juice was cold settled and then racked clean for ferment in a stainless steel vessel. The wine was again racked post ferment and lightly fined, filtered and bottled.
