2015 Backyard Stories Rose
Our first release of a small quantity of backyard Rose was inspired by a post vintage get together after the terrific 2014 was behind our backs. At that point we decided to make a left of field, South of France style of Rose but with an Italian variety, Sangiovese. It was a long night. A trophy in Melbourne that year for our Swings Rose played into our hearts and the die was cast. We think the subtle oak and use of Pinot Noir and some background white varieties has added to the crispness and drive this wine delivers.
Colour: Pale salmon, almost coral pink in colour
Aroma: A pleasant perfumed bouquet of candied Sangiovese and oak just there in the background.
Palate: Nicely balanced savoury flavours of fresh fruit and some potpourri. Acidity balances and holds the wine in check with that subtle oak thrumming in the background to lend some gravity and complexity.
Food matching: As an aperitif with shortbreads or mandorla dolce.
Cellaring: Drink in the next twelve months
Alcohol: 14.0% Standard drinks: 8.3
Region: Margaret River
Vintage notes: The 2015 vintage saw white and early red fruit ripen in one of the best starts to a season we have ever experienced.
Composition: Sangiovese 81%, Pinot Noir 9%, Semillon 5%, Sauvignon Blanc 5%
Winemaking: Hand-picked grapes were crushed and pressed without a sulphur addition. Each variety was picked separately and a generous (low) free run cut of juice was barrel fermented in one year old white oak and finished after six months.
Acidity: 6.7 g/l
Residual sugar: Dry
